Hi, my name is Nick. I’m currently filming videos for a new YouTube channel called “Livin Means”
This channel will consist of tips, tutorials & discussions for living within your means.
A little about me, I make my living by going to sea on oceanographic research vessels as a research technician. Since graduating from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with, of all things, an Oceanography degree, I’ve literally spent years of my life in the middle of the ocean collecting data with some of the world’s leading physical scientists.
These elite scientists, being stuck on a ship in the middle of nowhere with me, oft had nothing better to do than explain their vast knowledge of physical science of the natural world to me. I can’t tell you how lucky I feel having had all of these one-on-one interactions with these brilliant people who take care to make sure that I understand the impact that our research will have on our collective understanding of our world.
As an oceanographic research technician, I commute to work primarily via plane and I’m out at sea for up to two months at a time without seeing land. These research ships, primarily funded by the National Science Foundation, are scattered all over the world, so I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to travel and see some of the most impressive urban engineering marvels as well as epic vast rugged wilderness. I like to make a point to explore these places before or after my work on the ship.
I’ve arrived at 32 years old with a truly unique perspective of the world
Through my personal traveling adventures, being spoon-fed science straight from the smartest people in the world and developing a deep understanding of technology for my job, I’ve arrived at 32 years old with a truly unique perspective of the world. And that, dear reader, is ultimately what I’m here to share through this “Livin Means” endeavor.
What you can expect from me over the next year is a series of videos where I lay out my technical knowledge to help those who want to move out of their house and start traveling around in a travel trailer. I’ll be documenting my technical work on my Taxa Mantis and my friend Tony’s inTech Terra Oasis as we travel around the USA and explore.
In the future, you can expect more technical tutorials, but technology for technology’s sake is not a goal of mine. Tech is nice, and while it is my main skillset, it is not my one true love in life. Rather, the thing that makes me feel like my head is clear and my heart is content is the wilderness.
I believe a lot of folks are like me in this way, and through my channel, I hope to offer a pathway to becoming more in-tune with nature by methodically examining the need, purpose, life cycle and net benefit of high technology and modern conveniences. If you’re interested in reading more about that side of Livin Means, check back here on this blog in May 2022 when I’ll start posting about how I want to redefine what “Living within your means” actually means.
In the meantime, though, you can follow my story on Instagram @livinmeans. There you’ll find some behind the scenes goodies of my journey towards making meaningful content for the blog and YouTube. Hope to see you there!!
